iPhone Starbucks App

Starbucks finally released its very own iPhone application! As you can see from the screen ‘shots’ it has a latté of features.  From the home screen you can easily access your favorite drinks, stores, coffees, or food. You ‘favorite’ them by clicking on the appropriate menu item at the bottom of the screen. The filtering by amenity feature is helpful, especially if you prefer drive-through locations like me J

Building your drink was pretty straight forward, of course seeing the final nutritional values for your usual drinks is somewhat bitter-sweet. My usual, quad venti non-fat no whip white mocha was a whopping 350 calories!

Of course what’s better than a cup of Joe? Sharing your favorite with a friend so they can buy it ;-)

Cheers,

J

NFL Red Zone

As a recent subscriber to AT&T Uverse I was pretty disappointed last week when I realized there was no NFL package; That once again I was going to be stuck watching either the Raiders or 49ers week after week. I surfed around in hopes that I had missed something, that somewhere there was (even if at a premium price) an option that gave me more of a choice in what game(s) I chose to watch. Touchdown! Included in my package with AT&T U-verse was NFL Red Zone. Sounds cool but what was it?  I flipped on over to channel 1629 and for the next 6.5 hours two things stayed the same... the channel and my position on the couch.

NFL RedZone is a commercial free broadcast of all the best parts of all the Sunday afternoon games. Have you ever flipped back and forth between two games hoping not to miss anything? Well think of that experience minus the frustration of missing that fumble or touchdown. Think of that experience but add EVERY game to the mix... with someone else doing the flipping for you! It is pure genius. Attached is a quick clip showing the service in action.

If you have AT&T U-verse I highly recommend checking it out next Sunday. If you don't have it... I would recommend switching from your current cable provider to get it (yes its that good!).

Till Next Time,
J

Twitter + Opera = ?

Hello, and welcome to the Royal Opera House blog. Unfortunately, we’ve not been very good at blogging in the past, but we’ve just started a new project that we’re very excited about, and which we hope will breathe some new life into this old blog.

We’re working with the
Twitterverse to create the storyline for a brand new opera, which will be performed throughout the weekend of Deloitte Ignite (4, 5, 6 September 2009). We’re investigating how short, 140-character contributions can build upon each other to create a non-linear narrative – like a Choose Your Own Adventure story or a game of Consequences. Our mysterious opera director will be regularly blogging here with updates on the story, and as well as offering his thoughts on how the story can combine with some music and acting and marvellous singing to become a finished piece.

Our Twitter Opera experiment starts on 3 August 2009. If you would like to contribute, then you can tweet your line of the story to @youropera or visit www.twitter.com/youropera. The story starts like this:

One morning, very early, a man and a woman were standing, arm-in-arm, in London’s Covent Garden. The man turned to the woman and he sang…

*update* As of Monday 9 August at about 1pm BST, this is what our slightly crazy story looks like:

In brief, at the end of Act One, Scene One, William is languishing in a tower, having been kidnapped by a group of birds who are anxious for revenge after he has killed one of their number. Hans has promised to rescue him. The Woman With No Name is off to her biochemistry laboratory to make a potion to let people speak to the birds.

If you are into twitter and the opera both or perhaps just curious about some of the creative ways people are using twitter to interact with their audience (or potential audience) then you should give this a read.
